How to play

Start the exercise, listen to a pair of notes and select the named interval between them. Use R to hear the pair again before answering.

Scoring and methodology

The interval mode generates note pairs at defined semitone distances in 12-tone equal temperament. Ten answers produce a score out of 10 and accuracy, with an interval-specific personal best.

What this test can tell you

Pure synthesised tones isolate pitch distance. Recognising intervals in songs or on acoustic instruments can be harder because timbre, tuning and musical context differ.
